The concept of successful aging has been slowly changing. Rather than perceiving age-related problems as normal and inevitable, problems are beginning to be seen as modifiable disorders. According to Cohen, a well-known researcher in the field of successful aging, "The introduction of creativity and artistic expression to the lives of older adults can activate untapped strengths that can be used to address problems." Through the creative process, people can increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms, frustrations, stress, and traumatic life experiences, deal with grief and loss, feel successful, engage in life review and/or enjoy the life affirming pleasures of making art. We work with adults who have a variety of abilities and disabilities to provide a successful experience for each individual.
